Mayor of Gosford City, Councillor Laurie Maher has put forward a motion to include an agenda item at the next Central Coast Regional Organisation of Councils (CCROC) meeting, to consider an investigation into the feasibility of a merger between Gosford City and Wyong Shire Council.
Councillor Maher recommended the Councils be provided with independent, comprehensive and quality information, on which to base extensive consultation and determine the viability of any possible merger.
Extensive levels of cooperation and joint resourcing already exist between the two Councils in areas including planning and development, environmental education, library services, arts and culture and community development, with possible opportunities to expand on these existing areas of cooperation.
Investigations into the feasibility of a future amalgamation have been discussed by the Mayors of both Gosford City and Wyong Shire Council, with a similar motion expected to be discussed at Wyong Council later this month.
The Central Coast community will be consulted on any findings made as a result of potential investigations, by way of referendum. The next CCROC meeting is scheduled for 30 June 2011. Moved by: Clr Maher / Clr Houston
